it was riveting
watching life on earth was beyond everything he ever dreamed, which he rarely did.
what seemed strange at first, grew up to be routine, familiarity and finally home.
he was assigned to his third human during his short employment on this earth. as he watched on how this human developed, how it interacted like a cog inside the wheel that is life on earth, and how its dance with fate and will was so intricate, so seemingly chaotic and precise.
he took great care to document every nuance, commit anything to memory.
its relationships were messy. distanced parents, ignorant authorities and erratic partners.
it was a blur.
the white dress.
a shotgun.
suddenly-

he was doing his nightly patrol along the borders, routine and nothing more. it had been quiet lately. jack could get used to this. though he heard a single shot whistle through the night. it seemed far enough to still be inside the gates, but still. just along the river past the waterfall, then just the short track back towards the village. he had some stew left over from lunch. he'll need to bring the pot back by tomorrow noon, charley was a bit particular about her cookware.
these were the thoughts that occupied jacks mind when he let his gaze fall over the plunge pool under the roaring waterfall
